EVENTS

In 2007 Ron and Vicki are available to present workshops, satsangs and kirtan evenings at suitable gatherings, educational centres and institutions. The formats adopted for these programs can be adopted to suit the particular requirements of our clients. For example an evening presentation can be organised on the same day or on the previous day of a workshop. (workshop can be scheduled for a 2.00 to 5.00 pm time, kirtan evening can be scheduled for 7.00 to 9.00pm on either day). The evening presentation can take the form of a kirtan concert,  sacred music concert or satsang ( dialogues in consciousness).

A complete weekend workshop allows for two evening presentations on both the Fri and Sat. The longer time period allows for an extended more relaxed version of the half day workshop. (The workshops generally take on a more experiential format with longer perods of meditaion and contemplation whereas the halfday workshops are more didactic

Where cooking facilities are available Ron and Vicki can cook a South Indian / Sri Lankan meal for the participants. This format is best suited for a weekend workshop with the optional lunch, on the second day.

(workshops are a learning experience that focus on the practical usage of Yoga of sacred sound in daily life. the participants come to the workshop prepared to deepen their understanding of sacred sound and its underlying philosophy. the sessions involve chanting of mantras, recitation of mystical poetry, and meditation. Where appropriate some sessions involve drumming and dancing, additional percussion can be supplied.

The Healing Essence of Sacred Music

Join Ron and Vicki (IndiaJiva) on a sacred journey into the timeless space of Indian devotional music and chant.

IndiaJiva are masters at weaving ethereal Vedic chants and Raga Sangeet (An ancient Indian music tradition which had been in existence for thousands of years) with their mystical sonorities, presenting their music in a contemporary and accessible manner wherever they go.

The first part of the afternoon will  be a detailed explanation on the science of sound, the relationship between sound and the chakras; the therapeutic power of music that changes brain physiology and enhances emotional well-being, enriching one's life.

The second part of the afternoon will be a session of Kirtan - a form of meditation, involves devotional singing in Sanskrit and Hindu devotional songs, chanting of God's glories. In the tradition, it is sacred sound, repeated in prayer, that has an inherent power to bring into being the reality it represents.  It is generally presented in the call and response style.  (Chanting mantras elicits a feeling of wellbeing, upliftment and peace). We have chosen very well known, powerful and popular Indian chants, with words printed for the convenience of participants.  Today, Kirtan is growing in popularity as a participatory live music, healing and inspirational experience all over the world, particularly in the US where it is experienced in thousands of yoga studios and concert halls.  As Ron says, in a typical Kirtan session, it is not just listening to the music and chant - the participants become a channel for the divine sound and thus the healing process takes place.

Sat 27 October 2007  A CELEBRATION of LAKSMI PUJA - - 12PM - 3PM, ADYAR BOOKSHOP 230 Clarence Street Sydney, Ph. 9267 8509

An extra-special first-time-ever event at Adyar! Join us in celebrating Indian culture and share in a little of Laksmi's extra-special good fortune!
12 noon: IndiaJiva musicians Ronni Ragel and Vicki Hansen blend the classical world of Indian music with indigenous, world and contemporary musical genres. Hear a diverse range of instruments including bansuri flutes, drums and percussion.

12.40pm: Inspirational speaker Rev Pravrajika Ajayaprana Mataji explains the significance of the Hindu festival Laksmi Puja. The Vedic Indians saw the material world, the realm of eternal change, as a flow of energy. They linked it to the primordial power, which they visualised as a female form. She is Shakti, the supreme universal energy; Laksmi, the supreme goddess of affluence and abundance; Maya, the supreme unfathomable delusion or illusion of existence, and Prakriti, the earth mother responsible for the worldly existence producing material pleasures and powers. Rev Mataji came to Sydney in 1952 and is a senior nun and founder of Sri Sarada Math, the women's order of the Ramakrishna Order.

1.20pm: Join in Vedic chanting with IndiaJiva and enjoy a kirtan session.

2.00pm: Holy Cow! Sarah Macdonald
After backpacking her way around India, Sarah decided she hated the country with a passion. In fact she swore never to return. But eleven years later circumstance sends her back unwillingly, to experience the chaos and contradictions of the subcontinent, from spiritual retreats and crumbling nirvanas to war zones and New Delhi nightclubs. Sarah Macdonald tells some tales from her insightful and humorous book Holy Cow.
